Pea Puree

We’re moving on in the veggie world and this week we are trying peas! Peas are a great vegetable to make yourself, if you need convincing, check out the color difference between the jar and fresh puree! The fresh puree is a beautiful bright green!

Based on my research on organic foods, frozen sweet peas are pretty low on the list in terms of not needing to purchase organic.

Stella exhibited her first food-related sour face when she tried the pea puree-she wasn’t a fan! We continued to try the peas all week and only one of the nights did she seem really interested in it. She actually figured out how to lock her little lips so I couldn’t get anything in there. I’ve heard you should try foods atleast 10-15 times. So we logged atleast 5 days trying it and there’s a lot left in the freezer so peas will be in our future!

Ingredients
2 Cups of Frozen Peas (defrosted and cooked according to package directions)
5 ounces of breast milk or prepared formula (if using breast milk-use fresh milk not frozen)

Directions
Remove peas from packaging and cook according to package directions. Let cool.

In your blender, add the breast milk or prepared formula first and then add the peas.

Using the puree setting, puree 15 seconds, scrape sides and then puree again for 15 additional seconds until smooth.

Makes about 12 ounces of baby food.

Baby Food Storage
I store my baby food in 2 ounce plastic containers that I purchased from Babies R Us. Peapods also has containers for sale. You can also fill ice cube trays and once they are frozen, you can pop them out and store them in a feezer bag. Defrost food containers when ready to use by letting them soak in a container of hot water. Baby food can be safely frozen for 3 months. Use defrosted baby food within 24 hours of defrosting. Fresh purees can be safely refridgerated for 2 days.
