My favorite place to buy meat in the Twin Cities is at the University of Minnesota Andrew Boss Laboratory of Meat Science’s meat sale. A meat sale? Yes! So the University of Minnesota is home to the first meat laboratory in the United States (founded by Andrew Boss in 1901) and they hold a public meat sale every Wednesday from 2-5pm.
Recently I shared the secret with Twin Cities Live, you can watch the video from the March 12, 2013 segment here.
Here’s what you need to know:
▪ The sale is open on Wednesdays from 2-5pm at 1354 Eckles Avenue St. Paul, MN 55108 (follow signs to the salesroom).
▪ You can also place orders over the phone and arrange pick up at a different time and day (612) 624-9260.
▪ Parking is metered on the street.
▪ Print out a price list to reference while shopping.
▪ Follow them on facebook so you can get information on the Meat of the Week and monthly specials.
▪ My favorites: bacon ends, breakfast sausage, flanken style ribs, pork chops, ground lamb, and specialty items (venison, rabbit, ox tail).
