The Big Turkey Kahuna

Here is the recipe I made for the first challenge of the Twin Cities Live Kitchen Star contest. I originally came up with this recipe for a Malt O Meal cereal contest and altered it for the competition. This is a fun recipe for a pot luck. It gets people talking and having fun-who could resist a giant cheeseburger! It’s also great if you are trying to get your kids to eat meatloaf and its not going so well! Warning-this is addictive! And its great cold too!

Ingredients:
1 package of Cub Store Brand Bacon
2 lb Ground Turkey
1 medium Onion (Finely Chopped)
½ cup of Skim Milk
½ cup of Brown Sugar
1 TB of Minced Garlic
2 tsp Cub Store Brand Worcestershire Sauce
1 tsp Salt
3 Cub Store Brand Medium Eggs
1 ½ cups of finely ground Ritz Crackers
10 Slices of Cub Store Brand Sliced Cheese
Loaf of Hawaiian Bread (cut horizontal to resemble a bun)

Garnishes:
Pickles
Ketchup
Mustard
Lettuce
Tomato

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375. Chop bacon into small pieces and cook over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon grease and set bacon aside. Combine turkey, onion, milk, brown sugar, garlic, Worcestershire sauce and salt. Lightly beat eggs and add to mix. Add ground crackers and bacon to the mix and combine thoroughly.

Place a sheet of tin foil on a cookie sheet without edges. Place loaf mixture on tin foil and shape into a large circle that is even thickness around.

Bake for 1 hour at 375. Remove from oven and place cheese slices on top of your cooked turkey. Return to oven until melted, about 5 minutes.

Place turkey inside Hawaiian Bread “bun.”

Serve at your next potluck gathering and allow your family and friends to cut their own slice of the “Big Turkey Kahuna” and use the garnishes they like.
