Pizza Waffles

Pizza Waffles - Alice Seuffert 1

It’s time to get excited!! The Minnesota State Fair is just around the corner (August 21-September 1). I LOVE the Minnesota State Fair. I love the food, the NEW food and I especially love entering the Creative Activities cooking and baking competitions. On the first day I attend the fair, the Creative Activities cooking area is the first place I go.  Do you love the fair as much as I do? After you read the recipe, scroll down to the end of this post to win a Family Pack to the Minnesota State Fair.
There are many different kinds of baking and cooking contests at the state fair and the entries are all displayed in glass cabinets in the Creative Activities Building.  This year will be my 7th year entering competitions at the Minnesota State Fair.  There are cookie, bread, pie, gluten-free, vegan, canning and corporate-sponsored contests at the fair.  You prepare the dish at home, follow the contest rules and recipe requirements and then bring it to the fair on the specified day.  The drop off day is almost as exciting as the first day I walk into the Creative Activities building when the fair first opens.

You can check out the competitions and register to compete online at: http://www.mnstatefair.org/competition/creative_activities.html

Deadline to Register: Tuesday, August 5 at 4:30pm.

Baking Drop Off: Saturday, August 16 between 11am-2pm.

This year Bisquick has a Quick Creations category and the 1st place prize is $200.  Last year I received second place in the Bisquick Family Favorites contest for my Pizza Waffles.

Alice Seuffert - Pizza Waffles

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:
2 cups Bisquick
1 ½ cups Whole Milk
2 TB Olive oil
1 Egg
1 tsp Garlic Salt
1 tsp Italian Seasoning
1/3 cup Fresh Parmesan Cheese (shaved)
1 ¼ cup Pizza Sauce
Pepperoni Minis (5 ounce package)
Fresh Mozzarella Pearls (8 ounce package)

Directions:
Preheat waffle iron.

In a medium-sized bowl, combine Bisquick, milk, olive oil, egg, garlic salt, Italian seasoning and parmesan.  Mix until combined and pour waffle mix into waffle maker that has been sprayed with nonstick spray.  Cook each waffle until golden brown.

Once waffles have been cooked, spread half of waffles with heated pizza sauce and top with pepperoni minis.  Top with remaining waffles and then cut each pizza sandwich into four pieces.  Top with fresh mozzarella pearls and heat in microwave or toaster oven to melt cheese.

  1. My first stop at the Fair is Martha’s Cookies. That way, we can work all day to get them down to the point where we can shut the bucket 🙂

  2. These pizza waffles sound so yummy and different! I’m anxious to see what my kids think about this twist on pizza. The State Fair is always fun to go to!

  3. My first stop at the MN State Fair is always the amazing crop art in the Ag-Hort Building. It’s art made of beans and seeds — it’s like art PLUS food!

  4. I absolutely LOVE the Minnesota State Fair. Our first stop is always an O’Neil’s Poncho Dog and then onto the Creative Activities Building. 🙂

  5. Before we had kids, our 1st stop was always the Pork Chop on a stick – but now it’s the Dairy Barn for an ice cream cone. Hey, I’m not complaining ;).

    • I just LOL’ed reading the other comments AFTER I posted mine. I just assumed all 1st stops were food related! Honestly, most of our stops are food related or geared around locations of prospective food stops :). We go for the food.

  6. We spend the entire day at the state fair and leave the house well before breakfast. So, our first stop is always the Salem Church Resturant for breakfast. Not sure why we started there, but it’s a tradition!

  7. Depending on the group we are with, our first stop is usually a pronto pup for my dad, or some sort of protein the rest of us like. We love the spicy pork chop on a stick. Then its off to the sweets. Good luck this year! Your recipe looks awesome.

  8. Love your recipes and ideas. AND my family of four LOVE the STATE FAIR. We go every year. Thanks for the chance, Alice.

  9. My first stop depends on what entrance and what time of day I arrive. If I go in the morning, it’s mini donuts for breakfast! If I go around lunch time it’s the food building for cheese curds. If I go in the evening, it’s the Leine Lodge for a beer!

  10. The first thing we check off of our State Fair to-do list is to grab a bucket of cookies at Sweet Marthas…where else can you go where it’s perfectly acceptable to walk around eating a BUCKET of cookies for breakfast?!? Love the Fair!!!

  11. My first stop at the fair is usually swinging by the TV booths to see if I can have a chance to be famous and appear on TV! 🙂

  12. We’ve had a set routine each year since I was little and now that I have my own family, we still go in that routine/path. We always start out at the animal brand and grab a breakfast chocolate shake from the dairy barn 🙂

  13. We vary every year where we go for the fair. If it’s just me and the hubby we go find beer 😉 If we have the kids we try to find some of the cool exhibit halls to go through … the pet building, the eco building, and so on. Then we wander our way around the food we want to try.
